What is rough-in plumbing?
Everything that goes in before the walls close: supply lines, drain, waste and vent, and the stub-outs each fixture will connect to. It is the stage that decides whether the finished plumbing works properly.
What is included in a rough-in?
Supply runs, drain, waste and vent pipework, fixture positioning and stub-outs, strapping and support, and a pressure test ready for inspection. Fixtures themselves come later, at trim-out.
How long does a rough-in take?
A bathroom is typically a few days. A full house depends on size and layout, and it is scheduled against the framing and inspection dates rather than run in isolation.
How does rough-in affect the rest of the build?
More than any other plumbing stage. Fixture positions, drain falls and vent routes are all fixed here, and changing them after drywall means opening walls. Getting it right is cheaper than getting it moved.
When in the build schedule does rough-in happen?
After framing and before insulation and drywall, alongside electrical and HVAC. We coordinate with the other trades so the runs do not fight each other for the same cavity.
Who arranges the rough-in inspection?
We do. The pipework is pressure-tested and presented for inspection, and we deal with the inspector directly so the schedule is not held up waiting on paperwork.
Can fixture positions change after rough-in?
Small adjustments sometimes. Moving a drain is a different matter, because the fall and vent have to be reworked. If a layout is still in question, tell us before rough-in rather than after.
Do you work directly with general contractors?
Regularly. We work to the contractor’s programme, attend coordination as needed, and stay on the job from rough-in through to trim-out so nothing is handed between plumbers mid-build.
